Fired from a job he hated at a company he loved, videogame designer Paul Reynolds is drowning his sorrows in late-morning margaritas when he meets an alluring, pink-haired conwoman named Chloe. With her gang of techno-pirate friends, Chloe helps Paul not only take revenge on his former employers, but also extort a small fortune from them in the process. What more could a recently unemployed, over-worked videogame designer in Silicon Valley ask for?
In return for Chloe’s help, Paul agrees to create counterfeit comic books for one of her crew’s criminal schemes. You recognize the world they live in and the motivation behind the characters. While the book centers on a bunch of crooks, the excitement that would draw the characters to this lifestyle is both believable and alluring. As I read about the scams being pulled by the crew, I certainly thought about how fun and exciting their life would be. Of course, this is achieved by Dakan's abilities as a writer. This plot in the hands of a lesser writer would have been reduced to silliness by page 15, but Dakan is able to write a 320 page book that is over all too soon."
