Vaccine Idiocy and Editorial Hypocrisy: Why I Don't Read The Huffington Post
Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 10:56AM This great, simple post is making the rounds today. It's from Gawker, and succinctly points out just how hypocritical and ridiculous the editorial policies of the Huffington Post are. They won't post some crazy conspiracy theory by Jesse Ventura (and I've no doubt it was crazy - see this review of his TV show at Pop Matters), but they will post an insane, dangerous pack of lies from Jenny McCarthy about vaccines.
As Gawker's Alex Pareene writes:
Because today, the very same Huffington Post published this wonderful post from dangerous nutcase Jenny McCarthy about how autism is caused by vaccines and can be cured with experimental treatments that the established medical community doesn't want you to know about. We can only assume that as soon as the editors discover this conspiratorial nonsense, they will promptly remove it.
The fun thing about Jenny McCarthy's conspiracy is that if it catches on enough, it will literally lead to the death of children. Trutherism just makes you really annoying!
Just to be clear, I think Ventura's 9/11 Truther idiocy is just as wrong as McCarthy's anti-vaccine nonsense. I don't think the Huffington Post should provide a venue for either of them - they're more than capable of creating their own blogs if they've got something to say. Giving them a platform just makes the Huffington Post look bad.
