What I'm Doing These Days: Cthulhu Cult, More Geek Mafia, New Novel

So I thought I'd take a few minutes to update the world (by which I mean the tiny part that visits this blog) about what I'm up to these days with my various writing projects.

I've been spending a lot of energy lately working on whipping my next novel, The Cthulhu Cult: A Novel of Lovecraftian Obsession, into shape. It's such a weirdly personal novel that defies easy genre classification that I'm going to publish it myself. PM Press helped me develop it, but they couldn't fit it into their schedule in the next year and were kind of unsure how to sell it even then, and I can see that. Horror's not their thing, and even if it was, this isn't quite a horror novel exactly. I had some print on demand reader's proofs printed up and was happy with the price, service, and quality of the product and I've been getting feedback from helpful readers. I also went through the whole book myself this past month, hunting down typos and making style adjustments and such. I've got a great cover for it that John Yates did for me and I am right on track to have the book for sale at Dragon Con in Atlanta on Labor Day weekend, when it should also be available for purchase online.

I've also been dipping into my new novel, the one based in Berlin. I hope to have the first draft done by the end of the year, maybe. It's the beginning of a new series that has a similar setting and feel to the Geek Mafia books - it's a thriller that features high tech stuff and weird underground sub-cultures, but it's more of a pulp-style adventure story than a con artist/heist story. So far so good. I've got a solid outline and the first two chapters, and I'm on my way with it.

On the Geek Mafia front, I've just started preliminary development with new partners on bringing Geek Mafia to another media venue besides novels. I can't say anything else than that, and probably won't be able to say anything more than that for quite a while. I can say that I'm excited about the direction we're taking, and if anything resembling what we're planning actually comes together, it's going to be really, really cool and exciting.

Oooh, one other thing! I just wrapped up a short adventure for the classic Call of Cthulhu pen and paper RPG that's going to be published by a third-party publisher (not Chaosium) sometime later this year. They liked it enough to ask me to do a second one in the same style, so I'm excited about that. These are a little different from other Call of Cthulhu adventures in that they all share a special twist on the standard set up. Again, I can't go into the details yet, but I think the plan is to announce it by Gen Con of this year.

So yeah, I've been busy, especially when you throw in the video game stuff for Gamma Testing and Creative Loafing. Yesterday I even played Totally Spies! Totally Party, which I'll post about sometime soon, once my brain recovers...

I am also crazy about racing games and I have seen Gamma Testing and Creative Loafing of many video games. I am really impressed with this post and enjoyed a lot.
Thanks
